GMOs, Fat and Celiac Disease

GMOs, Monsanto and People of the World

Wheat and corn are killing us!

GM crops (genetically modified crops), have been modified to be tolerant to the herbicides glufosinate and glyphosate, to grow hardier, and to produce much larger yields.

Our animals eat these modified crops and they pass the ill-effects onto us.

Cows snacking on modified corn

Buy grass-fed beef!

Cows are meant to eat grass, not wheat, not corn. And certainly not modified wheat and corn with some chicken feces thrown in as filler.
Dare I mention hormones and antibiotics?

Only 10,000 years ago, we humans began to farm wheat. Some of us can tolerate it to a certain degree. But today with all the modifying going on, most of us have lost the ability to process it internally.

Yesteryear- It took 4-5 years for a cow to mature- Today- 6 months. WTH?

The Debate

"There is broad scientific consensus that food on the market derived from GM crops pose no greater risk than conventional food. No reports of ill effects have been documented in the human population from GM food. Supporters of food derived from GMOs hold that food is as safe as other foods and that labels send a message to consumers that GM food is somehow dangerous. They trust that regulators and the regulatory process are sufficiently objective and rigorous, and that risks of contamination of the non-GM food supply and of the environment can be managed. They trust that there is sufficient law and regulation to maintain competition in the market for seeds, believe that GM technology is key to feeding a growing world population, and view GM technology as a continuation of the manipulation of plants that humans have conducted for millennia."

vs.

"Advocacy groups such as Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund have concerns that risks of GM food have not been adequately identified and managed, and have questioned the objectivity of regulatory authorities. Opponents of food derived from GMOs are concerned about the safety of the food itself and wish it banned, or at least labeled. They have concerns about the objectivity of regulators and rigor of the regulatory process, about contamination of the non-GM food supply, about effects of GMOs on the environment, about industrial agriculture in general, and about the consolidation of control of the food supply in companies that make and sell GMOs, especially in the developing world. Some are concerned that GM technology tampers too deeply with nature"

Digestive Health

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/celiac-disease/DS00319
Following is a brief portion of the Mayo clinic article -

"Celiac (SEE-lee-ak) disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is primarily found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust and many other foods containing wheat, barley or rye. People with celiac disease who eat foods containing gluten experience an immune reaction in their small intestines, causing damage to the inner surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients.
Celiac disease can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Eventually, the decreased absorption of nutrients (mal-absorption) that occurs with Celiac disease can cause vitamin deficiencies that deprive your brain, peripheral nervous system, bones, liver and other organs of vital nourishment.
There is no treatment can cure celiac disease. However, you can effectively manage celiac disease by changing your diet."

Celiac disease was never as widespread as it is today. Was there such a problem 25 years ago? What has changed? Our parents, and us that are over 40, were the last to eat true wheat, although it was sprayed and we ate the toxins. Our crops have changed and it seems our bodies cannot tolerate it. Some people are much more prone to wheat sensitivity than others and they get the brunt of it.

Some sensitivities include hurting or burning foot pain, headaches, stomach upsets, fatigue, loss of concentration, hyperactivity, breathing problems, skin problems, cancer, and the list goes on. You have to be diligent about your own diet. The more knowledge you have the more equip you are to help fight for yourself and others.

No one involved in the industry would be willing to admit there might be a problem with GM crops. Remember, nobody admitted there was a problem with tobacco either. At least not until the year 2000.

I believe the worst appointment President Obama made was when he hired Michael Taylor as the senior advisor to the commissioner of the FDA.

An excerpt from Naturalnews.com:

"The one man who may be responsible for more food related illnesses and deaths than anyone in history, Michael R. Taylor, has just been promoted from US Food Safety Czar to Senior Advisor to the Commissioner of the FDA, a position which would enable the giant biotech company Monsanto to silently and legally feed cancer causing vegetables to every living person who is not 100% strictly organic."

Some claim that Obama has chosen Michael Taylor as a conspiracy to weed out and kill off certain populations. Also that the US will take control over the world's food supply and do with it whatever they wish. I personally don't believe this theory.
What I do believe is that President Obama has not been advised on this subject and made this appointment by lack of knowledge of the seriousness of this situation. However, I do believe that Michael Taylor has full knowledge and understanding and is aware of the dangers he's serving us up on a platter.

Another bad reaction to wheat- fat.
Why are we so fat? Don't blame it on laziness even though that's what you are being led to believe.
Soon third world nations will follow us in obesity as they are now being persuaded into buying GM crops.

GMO-Free!

What are GMOs? The following was copied from: http://www.nourishingmeals.com/p/gmo-free.html

GMOs stand for Genetically Modified Organisms. The process of genetic engineering involves taking a gene from one species and inserting it into the DNA of another. This creates something never before seen in the history of natural evolution. The transferring of genes into another species is not always exact and the possibility for damage to that species' genetic structure is very real. To learn more about the process of genetic engineering you can read this article.

Why would I want to go GMO-Free?

Before genetically engineered foods were quietly introduced into our food supply in 1996, there were no tests performed to determine the long-term health risks to humans and animals. After their introduction we have seen cancer rates skyrocket, food allergies reach a level never before seen, and autism rates steadily climb.

Not only are we consuming a genetic structure never before recognized by our bodies, but we are also consuming the toxic herbicides and pesticides these plants have been engineered to either withstand or produce themselves. Many plants, including soy and grains, are sprayed with an herbicide called glyphosate. Now glyphosate, commonly known as Round-Up, is unique in that it kills off the friendly bacteria in our guts while also binding to minerals. It is one of the most potent mineral chelators known! So if we eat animals that were fed GMO grains (and most are unless you buy organic pasture-rasied animals) and we eat the grains that were sprayed (non-organic wheat, barley, lentils, oats, and sorghum), we leave our bodies susceptible to multiple mineral deficiencies and abnormal gut flora. Did you know that abnormal gut flora and mineral deficiencies partner to create immune system dysregulation and therefore leave the body susceptible to food allergies and sensitivities?

Did you know that corn is now engineered to produce the Bt toxin? So when an insect goes to take a nibble from the corn, the Bt toxin breaks holes in its digestive system, killing it. Well what happens to animals or humans that ingest this corn? We've now seen massive amounts of livestock deaths and infertility from the feeding of Bt corn. A recent Quebec study showed that the Bt toxin has been found in over 90% of pregnant women, in 80% of umbilical blood samples taken from fetuses, as well as in 67% of non-pregnant women. It is theorized that our gut bacteria transfer the Bt toxin gene into their own DNA and begin to produce the toxin themselves. So on top of consuming it, now we have people walking around producing the Bt toxin in their own guts! Remember that the Bt toxin is designed to poke holes in the digestive systems of insects. It is possible that it is doing this in our own intestines and this is part of the reason we are seeing a huge increase in the number of people dealing with "leaky gut syndrome." Having a leaky gut allows for large food molecules and bacteria from the intestines to enter the blood stream where the immune system perceives them as invaders and attacks and immune response. If you want to learn more about  a leaky gut and how it develops please check out our newest book, Nourishing Meals, where we thoroughly examine the causes behind the food allergy epidemic.

Additionally, new research has shown that the consumption of genetically engineered food is causing tumor growth in lab rats. A two year study in Europe has shown that feeding GMO corn to rats increased liver damage by 2.5 to 5.5 times compared to the control groups. Rats fed the GM corn with glyphosate were 2 to 3 times more likely to die, have more tumors, and the tumors were larger compared to controls.

To learn more about the health risks associated with consuming genetically engineered foods please read this article from The Institute for Responsible Technology.

How do I avoid GMOs and Herbicides?

Since GMOs are not labeled it is very difficult to avoid them at this point. When you grocery shop you can buy "organic" since organic foods cannot be made with genetically engineered ingredients. But you have to be careful when buying processed foods. Many companies make a label claim that sounds something like this: "Made with organic ingredients!" This just means that some of the ingredients are organic, while the others may be genetically modified. Even when shopping at a food co-op or health food store, you may be purchasing foods made with GMOs and not even realize it.

In addition, many of the gluten-free products on the market today are either made with GMOs or made with non-organic grains sprayed with glyphosate! Look at all of the baking mixes made with cornstarch and other non-organic gluten-free flours. Remember that glyphosate destroys our healthy gut bacteria leaving us susceptible to digestive disorders, nutrient deficiencies, and food allergies.

Corn, soy, sugar beets (white sugar), canola oil, cotton (non-organic cotton clothing and cottonseed oil), papaya, and zucchini are the most commonly genetically modified foods right now.

Non-organic wheat, barley, oats, soy, and sorghum are typically sprayed with herbicides, such as glyphosate. Additionally, glyphosate is sprayed on land for an average of 10 years following a clear cut to keep deciduous growth down so the young conifer trees can grow. Think of the damage to the soil and the water run-off!

Here is what you CAN do:
  • Avoid eating out unless you find a restaurant that uses ingredients which are 100% organic and GMO-Free
  • Look for the Non GMO Project Verified seal of approval on food products
  • Use this GMO Free shopping guide
  • Buy organic!!
  • If you are an omnivore, eat animals only raised on organic pasture land instead of being fed grains
  • If you eat grains, be sure you are buying organic to avoid consuming herbicides
  • Eat a simple, unprocessed whole foods diet
  • Get to know your farmers and buy locally
  • Learn more so you know the risks of consuming GMOs by watching movies such as Genetic Roulette
  • Learn more by reading this article, entitled GMO Myths and Truths
  • Beyond food, think of purchasing upcycled or used clothing, organic cotton or hemp clothing, or natural woolens. Cotton is heavily sprayed with chemicals and is one of the most common genetically engineered plants
Don't use any corn products as a replacement when going on a gluten free diet.

New advice from veterinarians: Don't feed your dog or cat fillers in their food such as corn and wheat. It may be harmful to them. So why on earth do they feed it to cows and humans?
